UK construction activity slows down in October

Mubasher: The UK construction sector output declined in October after a solid growth in September, but expanded over the three-month period ended the month, data released on Monday showed.

Construction output went down 0.2% month-on-month last October, driven by drops of 3.7%, 8.1% and 0.8% in infrastructure, public new housing projects, and total repair and maintenance, respectively, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

An expansion of 2.4% in private new housing projects offset these declines.

UK construction activity saw a growth of 1.2% in the period between August and October.

The new work chained volume measure seasonally adjusted series reached a historic level of GBP 9.2 billion ($11.70 billion), marking the highest level since monthly records started in January 2010.

By 10:33 am GMT, the GBP/USD pair went down 0.09% to $1.2714, as the EUR/GBP pair rose 0.34% to GBP 0.8975.
